Huh.
I've come recently to the conclusion that I don't know what I want to be.

A little belated, and a bit unnerving, but it's true. I can't figure out if it's because I'm genuinely lost at sea, or just incredibly lazy.

Whatever it is, I wish I knew so I can go on and get trekking on that path instead of sitting around all day doing nothing and half-heartedly studying for the GRE. Which sucks btw. And is incredibly boring. Maybe I'll post one suggestion a day with all its pros and cons! That should give me something to do...

One thing I have decided: I need to stop watching TV and reading books with genius characters. It only makes me feel dumb. Oh, my mind is so irrational...

In other news, SF was awesome. We ate a lot of fried foods (I am not lying when I say I gained about 4-5 pounds), played a lot of video games (oh, boy. BioShock and Blaz Blue are likely the most vivid memories I carry from the trip), and visited the California Academy of Sciences in which with a little bit of persuasion, we got nearly nine dollars knocked off our admission price (it is also one of the coooooolest museums I've ever been to. Way, way cool. I wish I worked there). Visiting Chinatown was pretty awesome, actually. I may or may not have found the sign that referred to the current incarnation of tongs headquarters (I may also be just really delusional and making things up just to amuse myself). Also, the ice cream at Ici and the pizza at Cheese Board at Berkeley makes me want to apply to Cal as a grad student so I can eat there every daaaay. And yes, I suppose it was FAIRLY AWESOME to see my buddies from hs again. Man. Wilson people are pretty much the best best ever.

was gonna talk about my trip to see [info]myndii in SF, and my consequent introduction down the dark, twisting road that is Battlestar Galactica, but instead, I'm kind of horrified at the news of Diana Wynne Jones being diagnosed with lung cancer.
brief rambling )

Her books have so much life and wit and vibrancy; it's awful to hear her diagnosed with such a vicious, exhausting disease. I wish her the best against her battle with lung cancer.

Okay so my computer has contracted vicious virus that not only replaced my desktop with some appallingly spelled warnings, also totally fucked it up so it won't boot beyond the Windows XP screen.

I'm wondering what the third mechanical failure for me will be. I'm hoping desperately it'll be like, my iPod or something rather than you know, the plane to SF I'm boarding on Thursday *knock on wood*.

So, I'm out a computer, all my summer pics, my school papers, my applications, my ebooks, and my 25 gb of music. If I can't get in there long enough to back everything the hell up I might commit digital harakiri and be that one crazy chick who still uses CD-roms and paper printouts. I've already read more paperbacks in the past two days than I have since I got outta school.

S'okay. I'm excited to see [info]myndii on Thursday! I haven't visited SF since my fifth grade school trip, so I'm essentially a NorCal noob.

Man I miss my music. I had just started rediscovering the genius of Billie Jean and P.Y.T. in the aftermath of MJ's passing, too (his memorial service? Fucking insane).

I've become a moocher! I spend entire days in my pjs, watching CSI, trying out new recipes, and reading cheap paperbacks. And to tell you the truth, I have no idea if having a car would make much of a difference right now... Oh, boy. I've given the Bowers a copy of my resume, and hopefully they'll give me something to do, but am not sure when will have car. Not sure if I have the balls to drive again, actually.

Christ, I need to go out and exercise and do stuff. Instead, I've been making homemade butter and baking amaretti cookies. I can make some very refreshing raspberry limeade-ish drinks now. It is delicious with mint and a splash of gin. I'm just sayin'.

Among other things I've been doing are:
1) recovering from yet another car accident (this one was bad, too. At least I only have some superficial injuries and no scarring, and no one else was hurt. RIP, Regina my love)
2) family reunion-ing
3) learning mah-jong (most addictive game everrrrr)
4) filling cavities (I have 3 down, 5 to go. I haven't seen a dentist since summer of freshman year okay!)
5) shopping for Amy's bday present (lol I have perfect gift... which I won't be revealing since she actually follows this journal.)
6) attempting macarons for Patricia's bday (oh my god. Worst idea ever. I fail as a macaron maker. Never again.)
8) finished reading The Zookeeper's Wife which I liked, but was a bit suspect about the style its written (very novel like. Minimal footnoting. But I guess it's more popular, novelized history, so oh well.) Overall a very interesting look at the Polish Resistance during WWII
7) following the addictive book reviews at Book Smugglers which specializes in fantasy, sci-fi, and romance. Which is where I got the idea to read Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series.

I find great guilty pleasure in reading cheesy romance novels. In a bookstore, I inevitably drift to the history section after much wandering, but I think after Harlequin offered free ebooks and coupled with my high school love for Georgette Heyer, I've started looking more for romance novels that don't totally put me off. Nalini Singh's writing is pretty solid, and I love her universe, especially the Psy population.

Basically, there are three types of people in this world: regular humans, Changelings (who are were, meaning they can change into animals), and Psy, who have psychic abilities and apparently had a big crime rate until the Silence.

In the 70s, the leaders of the Psy, fed up with scandals and murders and etc. instituted a program called Silence which trained feelings out of the Psy. So basically, they are emotionless people. Kind of robotic. Excellent politicians and businessmen, and totally arrogant. I love them.

I'm not much of a fan of the age-old paranormal trope of werepeople, who are in touch with their animal side blah blah freakin' blah, but the Psy are fun and awesome. That said, I've got a couple bones about the current book I'm reading book 2.

spoilers for the second book Visions of Heat (christ, people don't judge me!) )

Movies watched so far:
Star Trek x 3
Up
The Hangover
The Proposal

You know what? So far I haven't watched anything I regret spending money on yet. The Hangover is surprisingly really really good, and it doesn't hurt that Bradley Cooper is hot like lava in it.
The Proposal is my guilty pleasure, and it was a decent romantic comedy that was funny and silly and a little cheesy, but campy enough to pull it off. Totally filled with tropes and stereotypical pitfalls of plot, but I was watching for the lulz, not Academy material, so I fully enjoyed it. Ryan Reynolds is totally adorable; he can sing to me any day.

Nothing is happening in my life so far. Math sucks. I'm actually able to watch SYTYCD on television and it's making my heart burst with happy glee. Evan and Randi and Janette and Brandon are my top two right now-- and I totally want to be bff with Jeanine. And and when they showed Ryan getting through to Vegas, I pretty much almost broke down with happy and awwwww. I don't think Evan will win-- at this point, I am thinking Kayla is pretty strong candidate, but he is my personal favorite. I don't like Asuka, ergh.

I'm going to visit Minty in July! I'm so freakin' excited. Advice for sightseeing in San Francisco?!

some summer tunage

Miss you crazy by Ne-yo is like, my summer track right now. I can't stop listening to it-- God, why is he so awesome? Can I take him home?

Also, Taylor Swift's Thug Song is wtf ahaha. She's so cute.

John and Anne by Lights On is so addictive. I can't believe how much I like it-- this is going on my driving playlist.

I've been in the kitchen a lot, both to add stuff to my blog and also just to feed myself. I'm starting to really enjoy doing the dishes. It actually kind of brings me to a zen place. Maybe this is a signal for me to find a job.
