ugh ugh ugh I just came to the recent conclusion that the promo posters of Sherlock Holmes with RDJ standing frontal with his hands in his pockets look really really awfully like Dustin Hoffman in that Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, which was ugh, kind of terrible.
I did watch No Reservations today, the one with Catherine ZJ and Aaron Eckhart and I loved it though I don't know why I wouldn't since it combines genius chefs with opera, food, and Abigail Breslin.
Happy New Year. Seeing as 2009 sucked for a lot of people, including a hot mess of celebrities as well as pretty much everyone I know in my year, I hope that 2010 is better. Hell, it's already looking a damn sight better for me. I am knocking on wood and crossing my fingers and hoping sincerely that 2010 will work out.
I don't usually bother making resolutions because I never really stick with them, but I guess if I had to, I'd choose to a)get in shape (that's like, not a real resolution though, more like a traditional one to be made and immediately broken) and b) be more considerate of others; I've been feeling like kind of a conceited bitch lately, though I can't exactly pinpoint why.
So.
Auld lang syne and all that glorious stuff.

Just watched Sherlock Holmes, and I have come up with more accurate movie titles: Sherlock Holmes: The Break-Up Sherlock Holmes: The Prequel to a Movie We Haven't Made Yet, But Certainly Will Sherlock Holmes: The Unnecessarily Extended Version
Because, it was all those things, and more.
Not to say I hated it; Robert Downey Jr. is so fantastic as Ritchie's revamped Holmes that it's hard to say anything bad about him, but I certainly didn't love it as much as I'd hoped. The plot was simple enough, but encumbered by unnecessary additions and subplots, the pacing lagged soon after the halfway mark, and the entire movie felt like a rambling set up angling for a sequel.
My favorite scenes were really the Guy Ritchie signature scenes, where Holmes does some bare knuckle boxing, but even those are because Ritchie's great with physical, brutal sort of sequences not because it's particularly relevant to the movie or plot.
Anyways, I still like it, and I'll watch the sequel, but I was a little bit disappointed by it on the whole.
I could watch Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. act like an old married couple all day though.
Also, I am jonesing for those sepia ink watercolor freezeframes from the end credits. Where can I find them? Gorgeous.
I had a nice Christmas with the family this year, had a nice haul of new clothes that I appreciate very much (new hip sweaters! thanks guys, for saving me the trouble!).
This year, I made cookies for everyone, and it was such a fun process I think cookie baking has become my new hobby.
I've read a ridiculous amount of books so far, and have probably gained about ten pounds in the space of two afternoons, but I am yet optimistic about the status of my waistline.
In February, I will interview with Princeton in Asia, and now that I've gotten to that stage, my nerves have begun tingling. To counter this, I am seriously considering running away for a couple weeks to Taiwan just prior and eating myself stupid.
In any case, I'm so far content and fat and jolly. Which, I guess, doesn't happen that often in anyone's lives so I am enjoying this status as much as possible.
Tomorrow, am marathoning the four Fast and the Furious movies with my dear Mints. It's gonna be so good.

O hey guys, happy Wreak Havoc on Turkey Population day. Went to my cousin's new house for the big TGday, and watched 500 Days of Summer with the gals. Oh, my goddd I hope to never have such conflicted feelings about Zooey Deschanel ever again. I was alike OMG WHAT A BITCH. OMG I LOVE HER. OMG BITCH. OMG SHE IS JUST BEING A COOL GIRL JGL IS TOO OBSESSED. BUT HE IS SAD. I DONT WANT HIM SAD.
Well, I still love her. And Joseph Gordon Levitt? Wow, do we really even have to talk about him? I've had a crush on him since 3rd Rock from the Sun, and it will NEVER DIE. He's so damn adorable. And heartbreaking in this. In any case, if you haven't seen it yet, please do. It's just a beautiful beautiful movie. It's got its ouches, but still hopeful and lovely.
Also: Star Trek. Chris Pine. Chris Pine your beauteous bruised face will NEVER GET OLD.
Actually, I grabbed this month's GQ with Chris Pine on the cover, and I keep it creepily next to my pillow as I sleep. Just kidding. But he looks v. v. GQMF and I wish I could just marry him already.
(btw, they also had an article about Jon Gosselin in this month's issue, and I gotta say, it does make you feel for the dude, a little. Though they're still pretty harsh on him.)
Had ThanksG dinner with guys from high school yesterday and P. I don't think we register as girls on their scale lol. It's all talk about bar fights, or fantasy basketball, or rating their ideal women on scales of personality, sex, and looks. P and I spent a lot of time exchanging conflicted looks.
Bizarre dream last night. I feel like I dream a lot about places with water-- oceans, streams, decorative rivers and pools, stuff like that. Just a lot of dreams about running water. What the hell does that mean? Maybe I need to drink less water before going to bed.
Off to play rock band and watch bad movies with Mintyyyy.

So this is how my birthday weekend went:
On Friday, I gleefully skipped work and went to Disneyland with my bff. I got in for free and a nifty pin, WOOHOOOOOO ilu, Disney!
We rode all the rides worth riding, and never waited more than ten minutes in line. That is the wonderful thing about going to Disney at the asscrack of opening on a weekday.
At Disney, me and P saw the Princess Tiana parade in New Orleans Square, and and and and HIGHLIGHT OF MY BERFDAY GUYS. Prince Naveen, while singing and skipping along with the other dancers and musicians, spotted me in the crowd, and paused and smiled and shouted 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY!' to me.
HIGHLIGHT OF MY LIFE A DISNEY PRINCE LOVES MEEEEE.
Okay, so maybe not quite. But it did make me quite happy. Good job, Disney!
We had lunch at the fancy restaurant in the Pirates ride, Blue Bayou, and ate so much we had the leftovers for dinner. In fact, most of our afternoon was spent leisurely shopping and watching the parades and stuff which was nice since by the afternoon, an explosion of people had descended on the park, lol.
Sat and Sunday P and I went to UCLA for a symposium on ancient Chinese bronze mirrors. Gorgeous mirrors, interesting talks for the most part. I saw a conservator I worked with at the Getty, and that was cool to see her again. Enjoyed the talks about the Persian motifs on some of them, and the lack of individualization of the figurines, but wished I had more background info to go off of.
And then, I come home to find that my dad bought The Beatles Rockband, supposedly as a "birthday gift", but what I highly highly HIGHLY suspect is simply his own midlife crisis as I never play video games, do not have any unusual love for the Beatles beyond the ordinary affection for cultural icons, and have never ever ever talked about rockband the game with anyone, much less my dad. So I spent most of the day making fun of him and his Beatles love, but ended up playing it for three straight hours after dinner anyways. What can I say; 'I am the Walrus' is enormously fun to get loud to.

I think this week's Glee was one of the strongest episodes so far. It's still kind of patchy and all over the place, but the issues they address, the stuff they reveal about the characters, the development of so many of them at once. MAN. This episode picked up my Glee love again. Just-- no spoilers but:
1. Artie Abrams is a fucking hottie. I love him all over the place, and this episode only cements that burning torch I hold for him. His penis, guys. It still works. 2. SUE. OH, SUE. OH, BECKY. AUGHAJGREKJJLFERLQER. 3. Kurt and his DAD oh my god I love this odd couple and I want them forever and ever to be showcased in all its glorious awkward pure love. And I find it super hot that apparently, Kurt can fix cars. And his dad's expression whenever Kurt talks about clothes! The pain! The panic! HAHA. 4. The Rachel/Finn/Quinn/Puck thing is kind of wearing on me a little.I think that situation is like a scab I'm waiting to rip off all at once. 5. I LOVED the last song performance. It was SO. So well done. And the song arrangement was reeeaally refreshing from straight out karaoke.
I am SO EXCITED for next week's episode. It looks like it'll be HI-LARIOUS. The return of TERI hahaha.
Also, David Spade sat a table down from us at the Cheesecake Factory today.
Also, I went to Griffith Observatory with the family today, and it was awesome. 'Center of the Universe' is kind of a spectacular show at the Planetarium.
